Making time for breakfast is something that many people struggle with! I know every single one of you have heard that it is the

MOST important meal of the day

but do you know WHY it is and how it can benefit your bod?

By skipping breakfast you are not doing your body ANY favours. You are setting yourself up to feel sluggish throughout the day and in order to feel better, lose weight or rev up our metabolism, we need ENERGY!

We need to FUEL our bodies NOT put them on shut-down mode.

When you eat breakfast in the morning, you are providing your body with the needed fuel to get through the stresses and activities until lunch time. Since you are essentially fasting while you sleep, your body looks for sources of fuel.

Even a small breakfast is better than nothing, so a cup of yogurt will suffice (and do not tell me you don’t have time for this!). However, consider providing your body with plenty of fuel to get you through the morning and you will feel happier, fuller and energized until lunch time. Some great breakfast choices are whole grain cereals with fruit, whole grain toast with peanut butter, oatmeal with berries, whole grain pancakes and egg white omelettes. Or my personal fave, a protein shake with fruit, omega oils and coconut water!

Eating breakfast keeps you motivated! Eating a nutritious meal in the morning can provide you with enough energy to feel ready for a workout, and exercise helps to boost your metabolism all day long (especially if you are weight training!). In fact, a healthy breakfast and a morning workout go hand in hand to keep you motivated until it’s time for bed. This helps to keep you on track when it comes to your eating plans, and it enables you to keep a positive attitude when things get stressful while attending to your daily activities. After eating breakfast and working out in the morning, you’ll find that you might even have enough energy to get in a nice afternoon walk during lunch or after dinner with a pal!

It doesn’t have to be elaborate.

It can be totally simple and super healthy but is has to be THERE!

Make ahead protein pancakes(I make them for a week- my toddler and I love them!)

panckes-0013 cups of steel cut oats
1.5 cup egg whites
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (preferably cold press, whey i.e. IsoFlex)
teaspoon of cinnamon

Mix, cook in a pan sprayed with oil, service with fresh fruit and agave syrup or grab and eat one on the go!
